It has been jammed for a few weeks because I am too girly to try - now it is too smelly and I know it is glass that is stuck because I cut my finger on it (not the garbage disposal blades) when I was feeling around the sides of the nasty sink

It will have to be disassembled to remove the glass, no other way.

Its happened to me, you need to take the disposal out from under the sink to get is fully cleaned. Its made to take out and apart. Look for the instructions.

So, there should be a reset button on the disposal (under the sink). First try hitting that, and see if the disposal will go on again (in theory, it should be able to break up the glass so that it'll go thru the drain).
If that doesn't work, there should also be a small hole you can fit a hex wrench into (if you're not familiar with a hex wrench, it's the little L-shaped tool that comes on a ring like keys...if you look at it head-on, it is hexagonally shaped, thus the name). If you get the right size hex wrench, you can manually spin the disposal...if forward doesn't work, try backward for a quarter-turn or so, which hopefully will un-lodge the stuck piece. Then hit the reset button and try it again. These are tricks I learned by having a family who liked to leave small screws on the kitchen counter! |

try sticking a wooden spoon in it and freeing the cutters and look for a reset button on the bottom of the unit, probbly red if the motor doesnt start, if it starts it will sound like heck till the glass is ground up. very carefull try to pick the big peices out before you start this adventure or just remove it from the sink and dump the excess glass out

Turn electricity off ans look for a place on the bottom that you can put a wrench on to loosen or reverse the blades a little. Then borrow a reaching tool. A 3ft. long tool that you push a plunger type apparatus and it has 4 little grabbers on the other end that open up about an inch, inch and a half. Flash light in one hand and grabber in the other, should do it.
